We Don't Need No Education - Wait, Yes I Do!

This week also marked the beginning of the fall semester. Yes, Monday, the actual day of our anniversary, I was in the art studio, being re-introduced to life drawing. This semester may be my last, as I'm crossing my fingers that I get a winter internship. I've taken all the computer animation classes they've offered so far, so my teacher/mentor has been generous enough to offer more advanced assignments for myself and another student who faces the same predicament. I'm hoping to get some great pieces to add to my demo reel, and really hone the character animation I learned last fall. I'm also looking to get as much art practice and learning in now, as that can be very helpful in the industry, but it's difficult to take more art classes while working. And it's not exactly something you can work on everyday at work - "Excuse me, could you remove your clothing and stay in that pose for an hour? Great, thanks!"

I usually take two 3D classes and one art class each semester, but seeing as there weren't any other 3D classes to take that I hadn't had already, I'm doing two art classes - Painting II and Life Drawing. I've had beginner classes for both of these in the last year, and am excited to see how I progress this semester. It's going to be a lot of work to balance these three classes, as that accounts for 15 hours a week of in-class time, adding hours of homework for art and computer animation on top of that. And, just for fun, I also registered for a 1.5 credit online course in the History of Animation! It's a requirement for the certificate (which I'm working toward, but in reality working toward a job in the industry!), it sounds fun and interesting, and hopefully it won't be too much of an added load.

I'm excited about all my classes, but it has definitely been an adjustment this week to think about homework and planning my time better. My creative juices are flowing again, though, and I'm looking for things to paint over the semester. Any ideas are welcomed! It would be great to bring an object into the studio to paint, but I have some friends who are very talented photographers, so I'm going to try to adapt some of their photos. We'll see how that turns out!

Speaking of time management, did I mention that this weekend is my nephew's birthday party, followed by meeting friends at a paintball tournament nearby to hang out with? Oh, and then we meet up with Andrew's parents who'll be in town to visit us for the following week! I love my parents-in-law, I just wish I was going to have more time to spend with them! Oh, and Andrew starts his new job Monday. Yeah, I'd say it's a little busy. So if you don't hear from me for a little while, don't be surprised. I figured I had better write while I can (hence two posts in one day)!

In the meantime, I'm off to do homework and watch more Olympics. Kerri and Misty got their gold last night, which was thrilling! I'll be crossing my fingers for the men's beach volleyball tonight. Everything else, it's fun to watch, but I don't get nearly as invested!

I will try to upload what I'm working on and keep you updated as the semester goes on. For now, wish me luck!
